FULLY RENOVATED HOUSE ~ WITH 2 GITES
TREMONZEY, VOSGES FRANCE 88240

The Main House
The Farmhouse was originally built in 1771 and completely renovated in 2010. The renovations were done by a British man who chose the property to be his retirement home. He and his best friend spent 3 years transforming the property into a dream home. It was built with much thought, love and attention to detail. You will be amazed by the original oak beams that have been left exposed and you can't help but wonder how life was for the original owners over 250 years ago.
The main entrance of the front of the house is at street level, that you access by going through the original barn doors (amazing!). Once inside, you have access to the laundry room, the workshop/garage and the stairs that lead you up to the living area. The foyer has a built-in bench with coat rack and wine storage.
Once you are upstairs, you are guaranteed to say 'wow'!!! The volume and openness of the space is truly awe inspiring - we are still in awe after living here for 5 years. In true British fashion, wall-to-wall high quality carpet (80% wool blend). A very welcome touch in the colder months to keep it warm and cozy. All exterior walls and the roof have been constructed with 2 layers of insulation ~ we use less than 10 stares of wood per season! The oak dining room table was built into the oak beams and has hosted many dinners and parties, with seating for 10 people. You access the garden from the east facing double doors beside the dining room. The sunken living room, that we lovingly refer to as the 'Viking Pit', is where we spend mornings in the winter months with coffee by the fireplace (and evenings with wine ;)). The kitchen is a large U-shape configuration with oak countertops and cabinets, center island, gas cooktop with double ovens, American style side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, and of course, a large porcelaine farmhouse kitchen sink :) There's a large pantry on the opposite side of the dining room.
The master bedroom is accessed from the main area, 2 steps up. A large open and airy space that fits a king size bed. There's a velux, double walk-in closet and access to the main bathroom.
The mezzanine is another grand space, accessed by the oak staircase. We use the space as an office, atelier and tv room. There is a large bedroom that is a beautiful guest suite with a private bathroom.
The garden is fully fenced with 2 meter high fence. We planted apple, pear and cherry trees, although they are young, they are happy and healthy and already producing (small amounts) of fruit. There's a bridge from the door to the large stone terrace, where we enjoy morning coffee in the sun during the nice weather. There's a second wood terrace, that is great for afternoon suntanning and watching the sunsets. You also access The Little House from the stone terrace.
The downstairs workshop and garage are very large. It's truly a dream for anyone who needs space to build, create, fix and of course - there's SO MUCH STORAGE. There's a double set of glass doors at the back that lead to the garden.
Living Room
Otherwise known as 'The Viking Pit'. We renamed the sunken living room after watching the Netflix series 'The Vikings'. We have many sheep skin pelts, candles and of course the woodstove, which reminds us of The Great Hall :)
It's a large space, and it's where we spend the majority of our time when we are indoors. We have it set up with two separate areas. The super cozy by the fire area where we spend mornings with coffee in the winter months. The large bay windows are nice to sit and relax in while watching the outside world. And the 'cozy corner' where we have the L-shaped couch, great spot for relaxing after dinner with a book or receiving foot rubs from your husband :)
And it's got the best view of the main level of the house with the oak beams, the mezzanine and the grand open space.
Kitchen
Your dream kitchen awaits! So. Much. Space. A lot of counter and cupboard space. Lots of open shelf space. The perfect center island, which is where we sit down to enjoy our dinners and enjoy apperatif and daily conversations.
The gas cooktop has 5 burners and a glass top. The iron burners are easily removed to make cleaning the glass top easy. The double ovens are powered by electricity and have multiple cooking options, from grill, bake and everything in between.
There's a small dishwasher, hidden behind the oak cupboard panel. A small countertop microwave. An American style, side by side fridge/freezer with water and ice distribution options.
The kitchen is open space, you can have conversation with family and friends in the living area while preparing delicious meals :)
Dining Room
The dining room is part of the open concept space, you can view the entire main floor and also look out into the yard. The oak dining table is built into the beams and measures 300cm x 120cm - large enough to host many family and friends gatherings. We have had 12 people seated around it for Christmas dinner :)
Mezzanine
The mezzanine is another grand open space. It is set up with 2 large leather couches and the tv. We have a built in large L-shaped desk that we use as our office and a large oak table that is set up as an atelier. There is also a large built-in bookcase.
The large leather couches are super comfy and make it a great space to enjoy Netflix movie nights. The atelier desk is located under the velux to ensure great light while sewing and doing craft work. The L-shaped desk is large enough to have 2 computers for his & her work stations.
Guest Bedroom
A large, private space for your family and friends. It is currently set up with a double and single bed. More vaulted ceilings, oak beams and a velux.
Guest Bathroom
Vaulted ceiling and velux, large shower and custom made vanity with stone sink. There's closet that also houses the hot water tank.
Entryway
The main entrance is via the barn doors and through the porch, on ground level. Once through the front door, you'll see high ceiling, oak staircase, custom built in coat rack bench and wine storage. The temperature is perfect for storing your wine :) The entry to the workshop and the laundry/mud room are both accessed here. This ground level was designed different than most old farmhouses in the region ~ garage and workshop on the ground floor, so when you enter the upstairs you're wow'ed by the volume and original oak beams.
Workshop & Garage
Ahhhh a handyman's dream ... or in our case, the handywoman's dream :) Massive amounts of space for all your DIY pleasures. The garage side can easily fit 3 cars. The back of the garage is currently set up as a home brewery. The workshop side has many worktop areas so you can have multiple projects on the go at the same time. Lots of room for tool storage. The perimeter of the workshop is set up with metal racks for LOTS OF STORAGE!!! You access the garden via the double glass doors at the back of the workshop.
Laundry & Mudroom
Miele washer/dryer - I love this washing machine!!! More custom storage built to keep all the linens for the gites organized with easy access to put away once laundered. A fridge/freezer, toilet and cupboards with sink. You'll also notice the original stone farmhouse sink under the window - SO COOL!
Exterior & Garden
The garden is large enough to enjoy all your gardening pleasures, and small enough to manage without all your gardening pleasures :) We have fully enclosed the yard to keep out 2 dogs safe and secure - 2 meter fence all the way around. A custom made iron gate designed to look like it was part of the original build of the house. Definitely a piece of art!
Many small trees, shrubs and bushes to help with privacy. A large stone terrace with a large custom wood dining table to easily seat 10 people complimented by a gas bbq ~ for all your outdoor dining festivities :) A second wood terrace to enjoy the sun all day long. All garden furniture is included in the sale.
