The Little House

It is believed that The Little House was built before the main building, where the family and animals would have lived while they built the barn and house. We don't know for sure, because all of the village records were lost in a fire many years ago. In keeping with tradition, the people we bought the property from also lived in The Little House while they renovated the main house.

As the name suggests, The Little House is, well, little. 30m2 total, plus a cave that we use to store all the garden furniture in the winter. The gite is accessed through the iron gate to the garden and up a small and quirky set of stone stairs. Heads up, the door height is short (165cm to be exact) so most people need to duck. But that's how it was built with stones back then, so we decided to keep the original charm.

Once you're inside you'll be on the ground level. This is where the main sleeping quarters and the bathroom are located. You will notice the super cool set of stairs to go up to the second level, where you'll find the kitchen and living area. A favourite place to hang out in. Literally 'hang out' in the hammock chair while enjoying the view out the large east and south facing windows. The vaulted ceiling, partital exposed stone wall and original oak beams from pre-1771 also add to the coolness of the room.

The decor style is a combination of chalet and bohemian = 'chalhemian' :) We fully renovated the interior, new walls, insulation, electric and plumbing. The wood paneling, exposed beams and partial stone wall  were always part of the plan. The boho just kind of happened along the way.

Kitchen & Living Room

The open space is shared by the kitchen and living room. The couch is a super comfy day bed which has a hidden trundle underneath that pulls out with a single mattress. When pulled out there are 2 single beds that both sleep adults quite comfortably. There's a hammock chair to enjoy views out the the east window that faces out into the garden and the south window that overlooks the hill across the road.

The kitchen is fully stocked. An electric stove top, microwave that includes a grill option, small fridge, dishes, pots and pans, utensils, coffee maker and kettle. The counter was designed to also serve as the kitchen table where 4 people can sit comfortably to eat.

Bedroom & Bathroom

The bedroom and bathroom are downstairs. There are heavy thermal curtains on the door and windows for privacy and also help to black out the room and keep it warm and cozy. The bed is 160x200 and there's a large armoire for storage.

The bathroom is tucked away under the stairs. It's tiny but it has a has a shower, toilet and sink. You access it from the bedroom area through a sliding barn door. A small hot water tank is under the stairs.
